The Shell Energy Asia Pacific T&S business is active in India, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, and Japan.

As the regulatory specialist, you will work alongside the Trading & Supply Compliance team to provide legal advice and support on all regulatory matters relevant to gas, power, and environmental products trading. The T&S Business covers the full range of financial and derivative trading on exchanges and bilateral OTC and the physical trading of gas and power, including multiple power station dispatch. The position will have a particular focus on the regulated aspects of the T&S structure, in Australia, and requires particular expertise in this area.

Additionally, the role is also to service the T&S business across the entire Asia Pacific region on all regulatory matters pertaining to its business, including licensing issues for new business in region, new Exchange memberships and ESG risks. What's the role?Pro-actively develop the team's practice and expertise as the Australia and APAC regional regulatory focal pointScan the horizon for upcoming legal and regulatory changes relevant to the Gas, Power and Environmental Products trading and supply businesses [and more generally, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) areas] throughout Asia and Australia including regulation of voluntary carbon credits, human rights, biofuels and other low carbon fuels, taxonomies, disclosure standards and their impact on the T&S businessProvide advice on how financial and physical regulations, particularly in Australia and Singapore, but also more broadly, impact the T&S business and work closely with the Regulatory teams in T&S Compliance and the Business to ensure business compliance. Advise the T&S Business on the regulations for the physical bidding and dispatch of a suite of power stations owned or controlled by the T&S Business into the national power systems.

Provide input and advice to T&S Business lawyers and Compliance colleagues on commonly encountered regulatory issues, including best practices or on risks and mitigants as part of a review process for relevant new business proposals across all business lines in regionMaintain, refresh or prepare Regulatory Deep Dives for key T&S jurisdictions so that there is a clear overall picture of the regulatory risks faced by the T&S business in those jurisdictionsWhere external regulatory legal advice is required, (which will be the case in most jurisdictions outside Australia) work with business lawyers to ensure advice commissioned from external counsel addresses the key regulatory risks and provides fit for purpose solutions.Assist with reviewing and assisting the Business to comment on exposure drafts and new regulation impacting T&S.Provide regulatory advice on portfolio transactions which involve the merger with acquisition or divestment of businesses with regulated activities.

Assist with designing and providing training on the legal aspects of regulatory compliance impacting the T&S Business.What we need from you?We are keen to hear from you if you have the following qualifications and experience:Extensive years PQE with demonstrated senior level law firm and/or in-house experience and admitted to practice in AustraliaExperienced in regulatory matters and, in Australian, physical gas/power/environmental products and financial regulation as it applies to a commodity and derivative trading business, and willingness to grow knowledge to the extent that in any of these areas you do not major .Experienced in supporting requests for advice on regulatory matters from business clients, front-line trading staff and compliance colleagues in difficult environments and under challenging conditionsAbility to understand and take account of business drivers and needs and balance with wider constraints.

The ability to work both independently and as a team member is essential. Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain relations with internal and external stakeholders across diverse cultural backgrounds.
